About

WE ARE CAVERS.

The folks at The American Caving Journal love caves and caving. If you are reading this, caving has probably touched your life in some way as well. The American Caving Journal has been created from this love for the activity and the community that we share. The purpose of this magazine is not to glorify or popularize caving but to create a source of internationally distributed knowledge and art related to caving. Our intent is to educate, inform, and entertain readers.

There are already several top notch caving publications in the United States. The American Caving Journal aims to be something different, something more. Caving is complex and we hope to capture that complexity on paper. In our magazine you will find an article on cave science alongside cave comics. It is a publication which will have extensive graphic and written art in an attempt to capture the experience and emotions of caving alongside the facts of science and exploration.

The caving community in the United States is growing and changing. We hope to be a part of this and to provide a platform that cultivates it. Whether you are an expedition caver, spelunker, project caver, cave rescuer, ridge walker, commercial cave owner, cave scientist, recreational caver, arm-chair caver, first time caver, sport caver, cave photographer, pit bouncer, cave diver, BNC, or Mammoth Cave tourist we think you will enjoy our pages. From all of us here at The American Caving Journal, thank you for reading and being a part of this amazing community. Cave on!

Affiliations Statement

The American Caving Journal is not affiliated with any caving organizations and the opinions expressed on our pages are strictly that of our contributors and our own, not any other entity or advertiser mentioned on our pages. With that being said, the folks behind the scenes here are all NSS members, grotto members, and cave conservancy supporters. Although there is no NSS or grotto membership requirement for subscription to the magazine we highly encourage all of our readers to go to their local grotto meeting and get involved with organized caving. The experience and knowledge of others is an essential part of caving and besides perhaps your light, it is the most important thing you can bring into a cave.
